Classical Ballet

The Style

ClassicalClassical Ballet is a form of dancing that tells a story, a reflection of the music or mood as with many other dance forms.

There is a particular technique and special skills that are developed in classical ballet, that make it quite different from other forms of dance.

Ballet dancers often seem to defy the laws of gravity as they float through the air in long slow leaps, or gracefully retain balance while spinning like a top on the tips of their feet, often moving faster than the human eye can comprehend.

Lessons in Classical are held during the week, after school, in preparation for exams. This is an excellent way to further encourage children to work towards developing & improving their skills, where they will then perform their routines etc in an exam situation with a visiting interstate examiner. On passing, each student receives a report and the corresponding medal, trophy or certificate. (If participating in an exam is seen as undesirable, then your child may attend lessons without participating in the exam session, therefore still gaining the advantage of development and skills - an assessment of progress would be issued instead).

At exam time (August of each year) there is an additional cost involved to actually partake in the exam – required by the Commonwealth Society of Teachers of Dancing. This gives us an interstate examiner plus the corresponding reports, medals, trophies and certificates.
