About Us
Our Objective
|
Through music, movement and expression we create and nurture a love of dance in
each and every student.
Eastern Districts Academy of Dance is committed to providing quality tuition,
whether it is for fun and fitness,
performance and competition, or career opportunities.
In an environment which
encourages confidence and rewards personal achievement and teamwork, we provide a well balanced
dance experience.
The Academy is fully focused on bringing out the best in each individual,
irrespective of their levels of ability,
everyone receives
personalised tuition.
|
Our History
|
Eastern Districts Academy of Dance
began in 1991 as Eastern Districts Jazz and Tap Academy but in 2000, to celebrate the new
millennium, the Academy was renamed to reflect a wider range of dance tuition.
In 2005, the Academy
relocated to a purpose built studio to accommodate increasing numbers of students.
The Academy has always recognised the needs and desires of students to learn a variety of dance methods and
this is now reflected in the
wide variety of dance styles offered.
|
Our Studio
|
Our fully equipped, purpose built
studios include full height mirrors, dual barres, stereo sound systems and
reverse cycle air conditioning to ensure the comfort of all students whatever
the outside weather conditions.
The Academy has a main room that
has the capability to hold a large active class of any style, be it dance or
exercise. A smaller but still roomy ballet room is immediately adjacent with
great barre space, and connecting door to the larger studio, providing easy
access for teachers and students alike.
There is also a warm-up/waiting
room, where all students can prepare for their approaching classes, and parents
can wait in comfort for classes to finish.
Part of this main area is devoted
to a well stocked canteen, where students may purchase soft drinks, sweets and
light snacks, and on weekends our famous sausage sizzle. This facility is run
purely as a fund raising facility for the Academy, to provide additional
facilities and resources as required.
The studio’s overall layout and
equipment levels emphasise the Academy’s professional approach to the
requirements of all students, while providing a warm and welcoming environment.
There is ample off street car
parking directly behind the building, providing additional safety for parents
and children.

the Academy, as well as the Artistic Director of Spin Youth Dance.
Ashley and current senior student Andrew Searle, recently starred in a “Tap
Dogs” style TV commercial for Wattyl Paints, which was broadcast
nationally on Channel 7 and Channel 10.
|
Future Pathways
|
Not only is our Academy able to cater for many facets of
dance, it also provides the opportunity for enthusiastic and promising students to grow on many levels.
The Academy prides itself on its ability to recognise the needs of
talented students to pursue specialised training outside of the academy.
Eastern Districts Academy of Dance
offers scholarship
programs where the
specially selected
student is able to have his/her unique talent and ability in the field of
dance nurtured.
